About MarSci

Mission

MarSci is the first online journal dedicated to undergraduate research in marine and aquatic science. As research becomes an increasingly integral part of the undergraduate experience, MarSci strives to introduce undergraduates to the world of scientific publishing. Under the guidance of a Faculty Advisor, submissions are peer reviewed and published by a panel of undergraduates. Additionally, as a completely web based journal, MarSci provides a highly accessible and environmentally friendly way to contribute to the scientific community. Undergraduates wishing to contribute to the peer review process are encouraged to contact the Editor-in-Chief.

Publication

MarSci is currently a semi-annual journal with submissions operating on a rolling basis, allowing for prompt review and publication. Without rigorous deadline constraints, MarSci can ensure publication of the highest quality research.

Editorial Positions

  • The Editor-in-Chief works to ensure that every issue of MarSci has the highest-quality undergraduate work as possible and adheres to MarSci’s mission. The editor-in-chief makes executive decisions; maintains proper communications among all departments; maintains formal communications with authors and inter-institution affiliates; oversees MarSci promotion; recruits, selects, and trains undergraduate staff; recruits Faculty Resource Board members; and rallies corporate and agency support.
  • Associate editors oversee the peer review board members within their department. In managing their department, associate editors transmit manuscripts to editorial board members, maintain all communications between the board and the Editor-in-Chief, and participate in the review process. Associate editors participate in the final decision to accept, to accept with revisions, or reject manuscripts for publication.
  • Peer Review Board Members are responsible for reviewing submitted manuscripts in their department’s category, commenting on both content and organization. These editors may be required to do some independent research on a given manuscript’s topic and also interact with the department’s Faculty Resource Board concerning their questions on content.
  • Faculty Resource Board Members work with the Editorial Board as needed to answer questions they may have about manuscript content.
Sponsors

MarSci would like to thank the Marine Science Department at the University of South Carolina and the South Carolina Honors College for their continued support.
