Here We Go Again

Emily Kasl, Editor-in-Chief

Over the years, MarSci has experienced countless staff changes and site makeovers in an attempt to establish the journal as a source of serious science. Since the publication of Issue 3 in Spring 2006, efforts have been made to further publicize the journal by presenting at poster sessions and creating an electronic campaign to increase awareness of the opportunities provided to undergraduate student-scientists. Serious thought went into restructuring the peer review process and staff infrastructure. This issue could not have happened without the efforts of K.C. Hyland and the advice of Dr. Stephen Stancyk and Dr. Claudia Benitez-Nelson.

In the hopes of creating a sustainable journal, staff members have been recruited from all classes, insuring that interest in maintaining the journal will continue on as the senior staff members graduate. Paper and computer archives of past issues of MarSci, publicity materials, and peer review resources were created to ensure the information can be quickly and easily accessed by future staff members. Current recruiting efforts are focusing on incorporating various majors into the journal: cover and graphic design from media arts, copy editing from journalism, and publicity from mass communications. In the scientific realm, we are striving to increase awareness both on campus at the University of South Carolina and at colleges nationwide.

As MarSci continues to gain momentum I can proudly say: here we go again.
